God is at work in and through our growing together.

There are three major components of discipleship at SCPC. The Groundings Experience is the
cornerstone experience for discipleship at SCPC. Adult classes help us grow in our understanding and skill and small groups help grow us together in faith community.

It is not a class that you complete. It is an experience that will set you on a lifelong journey. Through prayer, a fresh look at the teachings of Jesus, and discussion, participants of Groundings put what they learn into practice at home, work, school, and play. In a prayerful and confidential community Groundings participants share their experiences of following Jesus into the world for the sake of the world. The end goal is for each person who participates to notice God at work in and around them and offer themselves to be a part of that work. Through the experience they also discern where and how to help others experience Groundings.

Wednesday Nights - Lenten Series
This Lenten Series, “Jesus on the Margins,” will parallel the Sunday sermon series from Luke and the story of Jesus’ journey to the cross. Share a meal and study together with old and new friends. The schedule accommodates children’s programs, so it’s a perfect opportunity for the whole church community to experience a small group in a five-week program. Nursery is also provided.

A special guest instructor will lead our large group during Lent. Rev. Dr.  Jeff McCrory has 30 years of teaching experience in congregations and seminaries. Denise and Tim Nesper say, “Jeff’s teaching is always very rich with deeper meaning. (He reads from the original Biblical languages!!) He is full of gentle and sound wisdom, stout humor and a kindness that creates a rich learning environment.”

Personal Identity

Our identity is shaped by many factors. Philemon is a power packed 25 verses. It is a short but very dramatic story about Onesimus, a runaway slave and his owner. Paul writes this letter on behalf of Onesimus because he has become a Christian. How will Onesimus and Philemon relate to one another now? How does being a citizen of the Kingdom of God shape our identity in every day life?
