The 7th and 8th Graders and their leaders had a blast learning new insights about Jesus as Lord and Savior and deepening our faith through worship, Scripture, and discussion. We were blessed to have Billy Jack Blankenship as our speaker and the band, Urban Rescue, as our worship leaders. We even saw Sarah Killelea at camp! So yeah, it was remarkable! Thanks for your prayers!

All about Andrew:
Andrew is 23 and is working as an outside sales representative for Xerox. He graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a BA in Business and a minor in Waves. He met and fell in love with his future wife, Sarah Wilfong, through the high school ministry group at SCPC (at the time it was called High Life). He has actively participated in worship at San Clemente Pres. since 1988; from the nursery to Sunday school with Scott Miller, Gayle Reilly, Tracy Huiberts, and Bob and Madilyn Greenwald, to Junior High during the era of Garrett, and High School with Jim Toole and Mike Bautista, this church has been, and still is a place to belong and grow. After High School he served on Bernie Wohlfarth's squad as a Junior High leader, 2004-2005. In 2006 he went on a short-term mission to Malawi.

Junior High is the best thing to happen to San Clemente Presbyterian Church!

His pasttimes include surfing, snowboarding, golfing, playing tennis, running, cycling, eating exquisite carne asada, woodworking, fishing, cooking, photography, and playing croquet.

If you ever want to chat theology, home improvement, relationships, or sports, drop Andrew a line: AndrewKavlich@msn.com.

Andrew is our computer, powerpoint, and amazingness specialist

Favorite single musical number: Pachobell's "Cannon"
Favorite Bands: Billy Joel, Elton John, Marc Cohn, Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley, Pam Tillis, Twila Paris, Eric Carmen, Faith Hill
Favorite Duos:
Persons duo: Thaddeus Jones and Joshua Smith (of "Alias Smith and Jones", western TV series in the early 70's)
Food duo: bananas with sweetened condensed milk

Most embarrassing moment:
When a kid, I learned that "Amazing Grace" could be sung to the tune of "Gilligan's Island" theme song, as a missionary kid I got a lot of shock value from ad-libbing this in conservative Christian circles... Twenty years later, when asked to sub for the song leader in our adult Sunday School class, I asked for any requests, and a lady requested Amazing Grace. I said, "I'll start us off..." and launched into the song. The congregation DID NOT join me, they just sat there staring at me blankly, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was wrong, but it occurred to me that perhaps they knew a different tune. I said as much, and they started their own song off, and that's when I realized I had been singing to the tune of Gilligan's Island theme song.

DANCING WITH PURPOSE! - High School Ministry

It's not every day that you see high school students excited to dance. Well, actually that's not true!
However, this dancing was a big different as several of our teens gathered together on a Saturday night just a few weeks ago for our Dare U2 Move Dance-a-Thon and dance for a cause. What cause? Whatever their heart desired! For some it was invisible children, for others it was Angels on the Move. No matter the organization, the focus was the same - to raise funds and impact the Kingdom of God.
They danced and roller skated their way through the night raising several hundred dollars for multiple organizations, both local and global.
Thanks to those of you who assisted in these high schoolers efforts! All praise to Him!

Welcome to Refuge.Small Groups! Our High School program is changing with the start of Big Wednesday! How you ask?

In 4 simple ways:

1 REFUGE and Small Groups will now be offered EVERY week. Together.

2 Program will start 30 minutes earlier at 7:00pm every Wednesday.

3 REFUGE will be the 7-8pm hour for fellowship, worship, games, and talk tee-up

4 SMALL GROUPS will be the 8-9pm hour for in depth study and discipleship

It's the best of both worlds really. In fact, we sort of can't believe we haven't thought of this sooner.

SUMMER CAMP FOR YOUR INCOMING 7TH GRADER! - LightForce

Is your child going into 7th grade for the 2010-2011 school year? Looking for a Summer Camp for them to grow spiritually? Well, good, you found it. SCPC Student Ministries has our own Summer Camp called Emerald Cove. There are students from 7th grade to12th grade and each is mentored by a trained cabin counselor who has agreed to our "Safe and Secure" policy and has passed an extensive background check. These counselors typically stick with a group throughout the entire school year and build relationships with each student. Even more, each cabin is immersed in a safe environment where each student knows they and their possessions are safe. We forbid any and all pranks to keep our young ones safe and secure. Interested?
Here are the detail:
July 31st-August 6thCost: $535 (Scholarships available based on need.)

This Summer at Bass Lake we return to sunshine, banana boats, high ropes challenge course, riflery, half pipe, mountain boards, the Axle, hilarious skits, a tremendous speaker with an outstanding message, engaging and transformative worship, and the beginnings of something big. This Summer Camp is for Junior High and High School students who wish to grow closer to God in an encouraging and Godly setting and to be shaped and equipped to be that change in the world when they return.
This year for camp we are requiring that all students be paid up for camp by Wednesday, July 28th. This is the Wednesday before we depart for camp. To get started paying if you need some time, we already have a registration form ready for you. Simply click here!

If you need a scholarship, call Kelly King at 218-6944 x34. We will help you based on your needs, but remember this is a first come first served situation so ask us ASAP.
Questions? Do not hesitate to contact Ryan Romberg, Director of Junior high Ministry, at 218-6944 x31. Hope to see your incoming 7th grader at camp!"

Our journey to Bethlehem included a market place with bakery, pottery, scribing and painting. Between both services over 50 children participated as shepherds, angels, wise men, inn keepers and of course Mary, Joseph and Angel Gabriel. We traveled searching for a place to stay, being rejected several times until the humble farmer invited us to his stable were we celebrated the birth of our Savior Jesus. We continued our gala with hot chocolate and a piñata. It was an amazing Advent experience. Thank you for joining us and helping our travelers dress up and participate.

EPIC: Shaped By the Story of Great God, a Grand Mission and a Good Life - Sermons On Line

Epic is a grand tour of the Scriptures. For seven and a half months, ending on Pentecost 2010, the members and friends of SCPC will be invited to a daily reading "journey" through the Bible. The subtitle of this series is "Shaped by the Story of a Great God, a Grand Mission and a Good Life", and the emphasis is on our being "shaped" by this true story into the people that God intended us to be. By the time you finish this tour, you will have read 200 chapters of the Bible, spent time in every book of the Bible and will have experienced the epic story of God's mission to save his beloved creation.

The Reading Plan consists of an assigned chapter from the Bible every day (except Sunday, with some days featuring two chapters). On Sunday, the sermon will be from one of the chapters from the previous week's readings. Sermon notes for individual and group study will feature conversation both on the passage from the sermon as well as some discussion on the reading from the entire week.

Booklets, bookmarks, sermon notes, discussion guides, podcasts of readings, and study helps for individual, group and family discussion will be available throughout the journey. If you are joining us at the very beginning or jumping in along the way, welcome! Join a group, join a discussion, plug into an audio podcast or just start reading. We believe that this could be most soul-shaping experience of your life.
