NEW! SCPC Daily Readings

In the early days of the Reformation, Thomas Cranmer, the 16th century Archbishop of Canterbury was determined that the church read through whole books of the Bible in sequence. Thus, since the 1549 version of the Book of Common Prayer published by the Church of England, Cranmer’s daily readings for Morning and Evening Prayer have guided disciples through a daily pattern of scripture reading throughout each calendar year. An adaptation of Cranmer’s ancient daily lectionary has been created exclusively for San Clemente. It is based on the Anglican Daily Office Lectionary, but excludes readings from the Apocrypha (the extra books in the Roman Catholic Old Testament). It follows a calendar year rather than the liturgical year, but honors certain liturgical days commemorated by San Clemente. The pattern for Morning and Evening prayer takes the reader through the entire NT once per year, and the entire OT over two years (less the genealogical chapters of Numbers and Chronicles). In addition, it includes a 90-day cycle for reading the Psalms. It pairs nicely with our Seeing Jesus Together Journal to record your daily prayers and reflections as you abide with Jesus in reading God’s Word, either in solitude or in small groups.
